The second stage of Uzvaras Park is planned to be built in the part of the park from the central pedestrian promenade towards Hermaņa Street.
"If in the first [redevelopment] round we created a 9-hectare landscaped part, in this round, based on public surveys and suggestions, we are making it versatile for active recreation throughout the year," explained Edvards Ratnieks (National Alliance), Deputy Mayor of the Riga City Council. "We plan to create two multi-purpose sports grounds with double-sided stands and also to install non-contact equipment rental points. According to the wishes of the residents, we will install sports equipment, also for people with special needs. There will also be a cycle track suitable for young children and wheelchair users. We will also create a café area."
As Uzvaras (Victory) Park was named after the victory of the Latvian army over Bermondt, there will also be a special place for the Latvian national flag.
A residents' survey earlier this year showed that people wanted a café, strength-training equipment, and more greenery in Uzvaras Park.
The municipality expects that the second phase of the park's redevelopment will cost less than the first.
