Valmiera SES and Brenguļi SES, which started work last year, are described by their owners as "the most powerful solar power plants in the region" and together they are able to provide green electricity to 7,000 local households per year. Both projects were implemented by Latvian investment company "Merito Partners" and renewable energy project developer "Saules Energy".
Valmiera SES is located in an industrial area on the outskirts of the city and has a capacity of 7.1 MW and is capable of producing at least 6,900 MWh of renewable energy per year.
Jānis Baiks, Chairman of Valmiera County Municipal Council said: "Attracting more and more new investors, as well as developing new production companies in the district, energy consumption also increases. Green energy is an essential factor that helps reduce the impact of both the district and companies on the environment, as well as increases competitiveness."
The owner of Valmiera SES is the domestic investment fund "Merito Sustainable Energy Fund I", currently the largest operator of solar power plants in Latvia. Valmiera SES is the eighth and final solar power plant in the green infrastructure initiative of "Merito Partners" and "Saules Energy" with the aim of strengthening Latvia's energy independence.
