If you see a broken tree or fallen branches, you should assess whether it is a dangerous situation. If so, report it immediately to the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) at 112. In other cases, for example when a tree has fallen on private land, the municipality can be contacted.
In cases where a tree has fallen on public property and does not pose danger, on weekdays residents should call the Riga Municipality Housing and Environment Department's Environmental Management specialists at 67012969 or 67105427.
If you see a tree fallen on a privately owned plot of land, be sure to take a photo of it and attach the picture to the application to the Riga City Council Urban Development Department. It can be submitted electronically via the Riga City Council service portal www.eriga.lv, using the E-service "Application for a tree felling permit", or by sending a completed application form "Application for a permit to fell a tree(s) growing outside the forest" by e-mail to [email protected].
Alternatively, the application can be submitted in free form on paper and delivered to Dzirnavu iela 140, Riga, LV-1050 (contact phone: 67105800, 67012889).
If a tree or large branch has fallen in the courtyard of an apartment building, in the vicinity of a public building or in the courtyard of a specific area, the building or plot manager should be contacted. The owner or legal possessor should then contact the Urban Development Department.
When residents are not sure on whose property the tree is, they can report the incident to the municipality's information line 80000800 or by email [email protected].
Trees in the streets can also be reported to the Traffic Management Centre by calling the 24-hour number 80003600 or by emailing [email protected]. You can also report such situations to the Riga Municipal Police by calling 112 or using the mobile app.
