Bear-able photos can enter into Latvian-Estonian contest

Latvia and Estonia have announced a photo contest 'The bear – our neighbor'. The resulting photo exhibition will also take place in both countries in the autumn, Latvian Radio reported on August 31.

The contest is coordinated by the Latvian and Estonian Natural History Museums.

“The bear is a very attentive and intelligent animal who knows how to avoid humans. Some of the young bears are bolder and less fearful of humans, but the real old bears avoid human beings and can only be seen with trickery and specially constructed ambushes. There are around 1,000 bears in Estonia, but there are quite a few people who have actually met a bear. There are even fewer in Latvia,” said Polīna Šķiņķe, representative of the Latvian Natural History Museum in a statement.

Until October 3, participants can submit photos depicting bear life, not only portraits but also traces. The photos can be submitted on the Natural History Museum's website.
