Latvian largest landfill wants to double service costs

Take note – story published 2 years ago

“Getlini EKO” Ltd, which provides municipal waste disposal services at the landfill site “Getliņi”, submitted the intention of the Public Service Regulator Commission (SPRK) to increase the municipal waste disposal tariff by 89,8-90.6%, Getliņi said September 15.

The proposed tariff could enter into force on January 1, 2022.

The tariff is calculated at different rates of Natural Resources Tax (DRN). According to the current regulatory framework, the rate of DRN applied to the amount of waste disposed of at the landfill is EUR 65 per tonne this year, EUR 80 per tonne in 2022, and EUR 95 per tonne from 2023.

As the company explained in the statement, the tariff changes relate to the construction and operation of a new landfill infrastructure, including an increase in the depreciation costs of fixed assets related to investments in landfill infrastructure, the launch of a new biodegradable waste recycling plant, environmental impact reduction costs, personnel costs, public education costs, as well as changes in landfill processes.

The new tariffs will apply to unsorted municipal waste generated in the waste management region of Rīga vicinity, as well as the municipalities of Ādaži, Mārupe, Ķekava, Ropaži, Ogre, Sigulda (excluding the parishes of Krimulda and Lēdurga), Olaine, Salaspils, Saulkrasti, and some of the Bauska municipality's administrative divisions.

In the context of this intention, SPRK calls on the users of the service to express their views on it. To listen to the views of the interested parties, SPRK organizes a remote meeting on September 27 at 14.
