Rīga checks playground safety

Take note – story published 1 year ago

There are not enough children's playgrounds in the capital city, and the state of existing structures is poor. The Rīga municipality has undertaken to inspect all 100 municipal playgrounds, of which problems have already been identified in 20 places, Latvian Radio reported on July 19.

City council representative Adviser Kristaps Kauliņš said that some of the playgrounds have been dismantled, and six will be restored this year.

"We will check [the playgrounds] annually. For those owned by the local government, a plan will be in place to seek funding to maintain, develop, and supplemet. [..] Steps have been taken to make new plots annually, in line with the budgetary options," Kauliņš said.
