Rīga Zoo offers lion livestream

Take note – story published 1 year ago

The lives of the lions of the Rīga Zoo can now be followed online on live cams, the Zoo said May 31.

Recently, the lion cubs Varis and Teika's first birthdays were celebrated with special beef-and-carrot cakes and gifts. According to the zoo, one of the gifts is the camera, although it is hard to imagine anyone wanting constant monitoring for their birthday.

The cameras are likely more of a gift for viewers and environmental experts, as according to the zoo, monitoring systems play a major role in animal research, enabling daily recording and raising awareness of the situation of endangered species in the wild. Cameras have been installed with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development and the Environmental Protection Fund.
