11 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Latvia

Friday brought another double-digit increase in the number of new coronavirus cases in Latvia. Eleven new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed July 10, the total number since the start of the pandemic rising to 1,165.

No further fatalities were announced, with the death toll remaining on 30.

The Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said 1,841 tests had been conducted during the previous 24-hour period.

In total 165,610 tests have been carried out since February 29.

So far 1,019 patients have recovered from infection.

3 patients are in hospital, two of whom have moderate symptoms of the disease but one of whom is designated as being in a serious condition.

In addition, the SPKC said that of the 11 new cases, one was a person returning from overseas and another 5 were people who had been in contact with that individual -- confirming the dangers of importing cases from other countries. The cause of the remaining 5 cases is still being investigated.
