Take note – story published 2 years ago

On February 24, 2022, Latvia recorded 11,088 new cases of Covid-19, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC). The figure is in line with the roughly 11,000-12,000 daily cases recorded for most of the last two weeks.

Of the newly-confirmed cases, 4,135 cases were recorded in unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people, while 6,953 were fully vaccinated.

Out of 24,236 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 45.8% were positive. The 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 of the population dipped slightly for a second day from 7,193 Wednesday to 7,166 Thursday, raising hopes that the peak of the infection wave may have been reached. Since the beginning of the pandemic 624,008 Covid-19 cases have now been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.

Unfortunately 14 more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed. All of the victims were aged over 50 years. Five of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 5,159.

Wednesday hospital data from the National Health Service show 1,274 patients being treated in hospitals (down on 1,280 on Tuesday). 199 patients were admitted and 183 were discharged during the previous 24 hours. 92 patients were displaying serious symptoms.
