16 deaths, 723 new Covid cases Friday in Latvia

Another 723 new cases of Covid-19 infection were added to Latvia's total on December 3, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of the new cases, 407 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 316 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 256,125. 

Of the 10,106 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 7.2% were positive. In one worrying sign, after a steady decline lasting a month, the 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population actually increased from 572.6 Thursday to 587.3 Friday.

Sadly, 16 more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed. One of the victims was aged under 40 years of age, the rest were all over 60 years of age. Four of the fatalities were fully vaccinated individuals. The total death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 4,248.

Thursday data show 810 patients being treated in hospital with 137 patients displaying serious symptoms.

In Estonia the last 24 hours brought 507 cases and 2 deaths, while in Lithuania there were more than 2,000 cases and 14 deaths.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme. All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia.
