On Monday, May 3, Latvia recorded 203 new cases of Covid-19, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC). The relatively low figure is explained by a fairly small number of tests carried out on Sunday.

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 119,953.

Of 2,571 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 7.9% were positive, down on the 10.6% rate the day before but still nearly double the 4% rate that is regarded as the threshold at which the virus is spreading in an uncontrolled manner.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants remained unchanged at 441.2 Monday. Anything over 200 is classed as a "very high risk" pandemic situation under the government's four-stage "traffic light" system.

Ten more deaths were confirmed, taking the total death toll since the start of the pandemic to 2,154.

Meanwhile in Estonia 179 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed Monday and in Lithuania more than 2,000 cases were recorded over the weekend.
