The new premises will allow the separation of outpatient and inpatient patient flows and will open up opportunities to develop new outpatient rehabilitation services, which have so far not been possible due to lack of space. The new building is expected to be completed and operational early next year.
Currently, NRC Vaivari provides outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation services in one place, which puts a lot of pressure on the existing premises.
The two-story building with a basement will house specialist surgeries, three modern physiotherapy rooms, a medical archive, and the Vaivari Orthotics and Prosthetics Center.
The building will provide environmental accessibility for patients with reduced mobility and new, epidemiologically safe, and adapted premises, where new services are planned, such as a work capacity assessment laboratory and modern physical medicine methods.
Margarita Epermane, Chairperson of the Board of NRC Vaivari, said that rehabilitation services will be provided here to both Latvian and Ukrainian patients. Since 2014, more than 250 Ukrainian soldiers and civilians wounded in the war have received rehabilitation services at Vaivari. The rehabilitation center has also hosted nearly 100 Ukrainian medical specialists for an exchange of experience.
In 2023, NRC "Vaivari" treated 4,807 patients in inpatient rehabilitation, 1,332 of them children and 3,475 adults, while outpatient rehabilitation had almost 14,000 visits during the year, of which 10,391 were state-funded services.
The construction of the new building is part of the project "Construction of a new building for the National Rehabilitation Centre "Vaivari"", for which financial resources of EUR 1.99 million have been allocated. The remaining co-financing was provided from the profits distributed by NRC Vaivari in previous years and from the capital company's own funds. The total amount needed for the project is approximately EUR 5 million.
The construction works are being carried out by the general partnership Guliver & Velve-AE, the author supervision by VV Projekts Ltd and the construction supervision by Prokrial Ltd.
