Of the newly-confirmed cases, 2,863 cases were recorded in unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people, while 4,813 were fully vaccinated.
Out of 18,103 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 42.4% were positive. The 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 of the population dipped for a tenth day in a row from 6,614 Thursday to 6,476 Friday, increasing confidence that the peak of the latest infection wave seems to have passed. Since the beginning of the pandemic 689,794 Covid-19 cases have now been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.

Unfortunately, 24 more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed. The youngest victim was aged 30-39, with the remainder all aged over 60 years. Nine of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 5,308.
Friday hospital data from the National Health Service show 1,202 patients being treated in hospitals (down on Thursday's figure of 1,223). 153 patients were admitted and 159 were discharged during the previous 24 hours. 59 patients were displaying serious symptoms.
