Take note – story published 2 years ago

A total of 2,758 new cases of Covid-19 infection were recorded in Latvia October 29, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of that number, 1,966 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 762 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 214,460.

Of 29,633 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 9.3% were positive. The 14-day cumulative morbidity rate reached yet another record level at 1,796.9 cases per 100,000 of population.

Sadly, 25 more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed. Among the dead, one person was aged 30-39 years, one was aged 40-49 years, three were aged 50-59 years, six were aged 60-69 years, four were aged 70-79 years, eight were aged 80-89 years and two were aged 90-99 years.

Of the fatalities, 22 were unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated and 3 were fully vaccinated. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 3,198.

The level of hospitalizations continues to be a key indicator as hospitals are stretched to full capacity and beyond. Thursday data show that 1,495 patients are being treated for Covid-19 symptoms in Latvia's hospitals. Of that number, 188 patients are displaying serious symptoms.

The epidemiological situation in all three Baltic states continues to be serious. Lithuania recorded over 3,300 cases and 26 deaths Friday and Estonia recorded more than 1,600 cases and 11 deaths.
