2,600 Covid cases, 12 deaths Friday in Latvia

On January 14, 2022, Latvia recorded 2,628 new Covid-19 cases, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC). The case count has been above 2,000 all week except Monday. 

Of that total, 1,008 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 1,620 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 298,589.

 

Of 17,801 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 14.8% were positive. The 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population jumped from 1079.9 Thursday to 1157.5 Friday. 

Sadly, 12 more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed. All victims were aged 60 or over and two were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 4,712.

Thursday data from the National Health Service show 575 patients being treated in hospital with 72 patients admitted and 57 discharged during the last 24 hours. 81 patients are displaying serious symptoms.

In the other Baltic states, Estonia had 269 hospitalized patients, 2,087 new cases and 3 deaths confirmed during the last 24 hours while Lithuania had nearly 4,000 cases and 10 deaths.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme. All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv
