In the previous week, from March 20 to March 26, the average intensity of influenza in Latvia decreased and was described as low – 41.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (the week before – 79.1). The number of patients targeted at ambulatory treatment facilities in acute upper respiratory tract infections last week was 1,355 patients, or an average of 1,830.6 per 100,000 inhabitants (last week 1,880 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).
In the practices of family doctors, 31 clinical cases of influenza were reported last week, most commonly in Rīga. Higher influenza rates have been reported in adults over 65 years of age.
19 hospitalized patients with influenza and 11 hospitalized patients with influenza-induced pneumonia were reported from hospital treatment facilities involved in the monitoring.
In addition, 92 hospitalizations with Covid-19 infections were reported from the monitoring hospitals (85 reports the previous week).
Over the past week, the number of Covid-19 cases in Latvia increased by 15.3% compared to the previous week. 219 cases of Covid-19 were lab-confirmed. The proportion of positive tests increased by 6%.
Compared to the previous week, the number of patients in hospitals with confirmed Covid-19 infection decreased by 15.9%.
It is still recommended to vaccinate against the flu and Covid-19. These vaccines can be administered at the same time.
