On Saturday, May 22, Latvia recorded 441 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 130,712.

Of 14,100 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 3.1% were positive, exactly the same as Friday's figure and almost the same as Thursday's 3.0% rate.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants fell significantly again from 405 Friday to 386.9 Saturday. Nevertheless, it is still higher than the 200 threshold classed as a "very high risk" pandemic situation under the government's four-stage "traffic light" system.

Sadly, fourteen more deaths were also confirmed Saturday, all of them of people aged 50 or above, taking the total death toll since the start of the pandemic to 2,323.

Meanwhile in Estonia 180 cases and one death were recorded May 22, and in Lithuania 822 cases and eight deaths were logged.
