This week 72 cases of Covid-19 were reported in mass testing of students prior to the new school year, Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) told newswire LETA August 28.

This week, mass testing of students against Covid-19 was launched in Latvia before the beginning of the school year. Previously, Health Minister Daniels Pavļuts warned that Covid-19 morbidity rates in the country will certainly increase when all pupils start testing.

So far, 81,334 screening tests have been conducted at schools and other educational institutions and revealed 72 cases of Covid-19.

The proportion of positive cases against the tests was 0.09%, which is less than in the general population. SPKC data show that the proportion of Covid-19 cases detected daily this week ranged from 0.5% to 2%.
