Thursday brought 9,087 new confirmed cases according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC), second only to Wednesday's 9,143 cases.

Of 25,893 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, over a third (35.1%) were positive. The 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population also surged to a record level, climbing from 3,239 Wednesday ti 3,584.4 Thursday, by far the highest figure of the pandemic.
Since the beginning of the pandemic 363,821 Covid cases have been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.
Eighteen more Covid-related deaths were confirmed, the youngest of the victims aged 30 to 39 years. Seven of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 4,846.
Thursday data from the National Health Service show 760 patients being treated in hospital (down on 761 the previous day) with 98 patients admitted and 75 discharged during the last 24 hours. 67 patients are displaying serious symptoms.

In the other Baltic states, Estonia recorded over 6,000 new cases during the last 24 hours while Lithuania hit a record high five-digit figure of over 10,000 cases.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme. All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
