The specially equipped bus at the RAKUS Emergency Medical and Patient Reception Clinic reached Monday around midday. A general checkup has been performed for all those injured in the war, and patients have been moved to different hospital treatment units.
Vitaly from Ukraine, for example, is delighted to receive medical treatment, particularly rehabilitation. Vitali said: “I lost my foot in the war. We fought against tanks in Severodonetsk. There was heavy machinery, and that's where I lost my left foot. It was very tough, but I survived.”
This is the second bus from Ukraine that has brought people from the war zones to the East Hospital. The first arrived in August, and four of the patients have not yet been discharged from the hospital. Doctors estimate that the recovery of men brought in on Monday may not be rapid.
Head of RAKUS Traumatology and orthopedics Clinic Andris Vikmanis said: “These are basically all young men with explosion injuries, with many soft tissue distortions and permanent disabilities. Then there is a patient with brain damage who still has a splinter in the head. There he'll still be looked at by neurosurgeons, whether there's a chance to do anything else or not."
Currently, some of the patients are located in Gaiļezers, some of them have been transferred to the branch Biķernieki.
