The term of office of Liene Cipule as Director of the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) has been extended, the Ministry of Health (VM) confirmed to LETA on December 8.

Cipule took office on January 8, 2018, and her five-year term of office would expire at the beginning of January next year.

VM informed that the decision on the extension of the term of office was taken in accordance with the State Civil Service Law, as well as the ongoing evaluation carried out in the course of the procedure established by the State Administration, and an assessment of the powers of the head of authority. All of this in general has served as the basis for a decision.

In accordance with the law, the term of office has been extended for a period of five years until January 7, 2028.

According to LETA's archive, Cipule had previously been the head of Diamed clinic and worked at the Riga Health Center, the Latvian Association of Physicians, and Sigulda hospital. Cipule has also taken the position of VM Parliamentary Secretary. In the 2021 municipal elections, Cipule was elected from the New Unity list, but in the autumn it was decided to put down the parliamentary mandate because, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the work in the municipality could not be combined with the running of the NMPD.
