Covid 14-day infection rate back over 200 per 100,000 population

Two deaths from Covid-19 have been recorded during the last 24-hour period, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) June 29.

Of 2,942 tests carried out, 21% were positive, resulting in 617 confirmed new cases of infection. The 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 population rose from 189 Tuesday to 208 Wednesday, taking it back over the 200 threshold which marks a "very high risk" situation according to the national "traffic light" warning level system. The last time this indicator was above 200 was in mid-May.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 835,152 Covid-19 cases have now been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.

The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 5,860. Both of the latest victims were aged over 60 years.

Tuesday hospital data from the National Health Service (NVD) show 117 patients being treated in hospitals, 9 of whom are displaying serious symptoms.
