COVID-19 case total for Latvia increases by record amount

Latvia recorded its largest number of COVID-19 cases so far in a single day on November 11.

According to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC), 453 cases were registered, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 8,848. It surpasses the previous highest figure of 404 cases on November 7.

Of 7,621 tests carried out in total, 5.9% were positive, sharply up on the 3.1% rate the previous day.

Two deaths were also recorded, with one victim aged 75 to 80 and one aged 65 to 70.

So far 1,471 patients have recovered from infection and 105 have died.

The National Health Service (NVD) said Latvia's hospitals have 299 patients being treated for coronavirus symptoms at the moment (down on 309 the previous day), of whom 282 are displaying moderate symptoms while 17 have serious symptoms (up from 15 the previous day).

On November 11, Estonia reported 132 new cases of coronavirus, and Lithuania reported 1,433 cases.

On November 10, the 14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 of population was 178.6 in Latvia, 529.9 in Lithuania and 137.5 in Estonia, according to data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. The trend in all three Baltic states is upward.

The SPKC has information in English about the approved methods of protecting yourself from the virus.

All arrivals (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
