Covid-19 morbidity went down significantly last week in Latvia

In the last three weeks, there has been a reduction in Covid-19 morbidity in Latvia. Last week the decrease was 26% compared to the week before, according to information published May 24 by Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC). 

On average, 424 newly infected people are recorded per day. The number of tests performed decreased by 2.1% last week, averaging 12,597 tests per day (12,864 tests previously).

An average of 56 patients per day were hospitalized over the past seven days. However, the number of patients in hospitals with severe symptoms has increased by 7.4%, around 79 patients per day.

There is a reduction in morbidity in all age groups, but there is a slight increase in age group 70 + over the last two weeks.

Covid-19 infection reproduction factor (R) currently stands at 0.8 (a week earlier at 0.88), indicating a decrease in the spread of infectious disease. 

Latvia is currently maintaining an invariably high 4th-5th rank in Europe regarding morbidity. Overall, the situation in Europe is improving: 24 countries have a stable or decreasing morbidity.
