Budzila said that at East Hospital, medics are working to balance patients' treatment time in the hospital: “So that they don't stay too long [in the hospital], but long enough to keep [the patient] from returning. Because if the patient returns, they'll take the bed again.”
Currently, the average treatment time for such patients at RAKUS is ten days. “I think this is the optimal time at the moment, given the severity of the patients' [illness] currently,” said Budzila.
Describing the situation at the East Hospital, Budzila said that Covid-19's new outbreak had imposed new challenges. “At the moment, Latvian healthcare is on the brink of burning out. We are working with both those patients who have not received health care for a long time and with Covid-19 patients who have very severe, [symptoms],” the medic said.
