Covid case total rises by 40 Friday in Latvia

On Friday, July 2, Latvia reported 40 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 137,540.  

Of 7,598 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 0.5% were positive, down on the previous day's 0.8% rate.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants continued its decline, from 50.5 Thursday to 46.9 Friday. The last time the indicator was below 50 was October 10, 2020.

Unfortunately there were also six more Covid-19 deaths confirmed, so the death toll since the start of the pandemic rises to 2,526. All the victims were aged over 60 years.

As far as Latvia's vaccination drive is concerned, Thursday saw 3,087 people receive a first dose of coronavirus vaccine and 5,056 receive a second dose. 553,500 people have now completed the vaccination process. 

Meanwhile in Estonia 38 cases of coronavirus and no deaths were recorded Friday and in Lithuania the figure was 30 cases and one death.

There is a Latvian language hotline 8989 which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv/.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
