Covid morbidity falls for second week in Latvia

There has been a decrease in newly identified Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive week in Latvia, said representative of Disease Control and Prevention Center (SPKC) Gints Georgs Muraševs on August 8.

Last week the number of newly identified cases of Covid-19 in Latvia increased by 7.4% (an average of 1390 per day). A slight increase is seen for the second week compared with the previous week. The proportion of positive samples has also decreased slightly by 0.1%. On average, 27 patients were hospitalized daily, 2.7% more than a week earlier.

In the last two weeks, Covid was recorded most commonly in the age group 30-39.

There was a slight increase in morbidity throughout Latvia, but the previous week saw a more rapid increase in Vidzeme, while stabilization is observed in Rīga and Latgale.

The average Covid-19 incidence rate of the European Union and the European Economic Area continues to decrease.
