Fabric masks banned as of January 25 in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

As of January 25, only medical masks or FFP2 or higher-class respirators without valves will be allowed to be used in public places, the government decided Tuesday, January 18.

The changes are intended to maximize the safety of the population.

Medical facial masks and respirators are standardized and have internationally defined specific requirements for their effectiveness. Therefore, the correct use of a medical facial mask or respirator can guarantee its effectiveness.

The amendments provide for an exception: pupils and those working in the education sector who will be able to continue to use fabric masks provided by the State at school. The Ministry of Health argued that such an exception is allowed in the educational process because of the use of high-quality fabric masks specially procured. All pupils will also be able to use their fabric masks in public transport, while in other public places they will also have to use a medical mask or A FFP2 respirator. Children between 7 and 12 will be able to continue using fabric masks in all public places.

Fully vaccinated or recovered individuals in a controlled collective (like a workplace) will no longer be able to meet without a face mask.
