As Latvia plans to receive the first vaccines by the end of the year, on December 28 ten vaccination rooms will start work with Covid-19 vaccines. The first ones to receive the vaccines will be medics working with Covid-19 patients and employees of the Emergency Medical Service.
If the European Medicines Agency on December 21 recommends registration of BioNTech and Pfizer vaccines, the European Commission will in a few days adopt a decision on certification that is valid in all EU and EEA countries. Then the vaccine can be delivered to all EU countries, including Latvia.
The dates are still subject to change.
Health Minister Ilze Viņķele (For Development) said that Latvia has done everything to be ready to receive the vaccine and organize vaccination, offering it to the group that currently is most exposed to Covid-19, namely, medics.
