Flu numbers doubled in Latvia last week

Last week, the influenza rate in Latvia more than doubled, according to April 27 data from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

SPKC reported that 139 confirmed flu cases were reported in the previous week at family doctors' practices, while hospitals reported 43 hospitalized flu patients.

Age group breakdown of patients in hospitals:

  • 8 patients aged 0-4;
  • 11 patients aged 5-14;
  • 16 patients aged 15-64;
  • 7 patients aged 65 + years.

The SPKC recalled that vaccination against influenza is currently paid for by the State to everyone.
