According to Caksa, both new programs will commence in August. The funding for early detection of cardiovascular diseases will be EUR 2 million this year, EUR 2.6 million in 2019 and EUR 3.2 million in 2020. The program stipulates that all residents aged 40 and older will have to visit their family physicians once in every five years to have their cardiovascular health risks assessed.
Last year, 15,838 people died of cardiovascular diseases in Latvia.
The financing for treatment of chronic patients in hospitals will be EUR 2.7 million this year and EUR 5.4 million in the subsequent years. This program will ensure care for chronic patients who require regular hospital treatment.
