Influenza season in full swing in Latvia

Last week the number of flu patients in Latvia’s southeastern Daugavpils region has reached the epidemic threshold, therefore the flu epidemics has been declared in Latvia starting from January 30, The Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) reported.

Daugavpils last week registered 117.9 flu cases per 100,000 residents, thus exceeding the epidemc threshold of 100 cases per 100,000 residents.

In the fourth week of this year 62 flu patients per 100,000 residents were registered in Ventspils, 30 in Jurmala, 26.1 in Liepaja, 20.6 in Riga. The average flu incidence in Latvia is 28.9 flu cases per 100,000 residents.

Altogether 49 flu patients were taken to hospitals last week, including 36 in Riga. In all, 114 patients have been hospitalized with flu since the beginning of the season.
