Latvia receives first Covid Omicron vaccines

Take note – story published 1 year ago

On September 7 and September 8, Latvia received adapted vaccines for protection against the Omicron sub-type of Covid-19 and the original Covid-19 virus, the National Health Service (NVD) said.

230,400 “Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA.1” and 43,200 “Spikevax Bivalent Original/Omicron BA.1” have been received.

Vaccines will be available at family doctors' practices and vaccination offices as of September 12.

The modified vaccines are intended for use in persons aged 12 years and over who have received at least primary vaccination against Covid-19. These custom vaccines are modified versions of the original “Comirnaty” (Pfizer/BioNTech) and “Spikevax” (Moderna) vaccines designed to protect both against the subtype BA.1 and the original Covid-19 virus.

Residents who wish to apply for vaccination should contact the practice of their family doctor or the vaccination office of the medical treatment institution. It is possible to do so on the “Manavakcina.lv” website, too.
