Latvia will buy extra CureVac vaccines

Take note – story published 3 years ago

The government has decided to apply for additional 646 510 vaccines available to Latvia by the German producer CureVac,  the Ministry of Health said January 21.

Altogether, Latvia is planning to purchase 946 510 doses of vaccines from this producer.

For the purchase of vaccines, including logistical costs and administration, €14.4 million of emergency funding has been allocated.

Until now, Latvia had planned to purchase a dose of 300 000 vaccines from the manufacturer CureVac.

Health Minister Daniels Pavluts said after the government meeting that this decision strengthens our sense of safety that the Latvian people will have access to a sufficient and diverse portfolio of vaccines, which is important because "we cannot be sure that all deliveries will be timely."

The European Commission (EC) concluded an agreement with the vaccine producer CureVac  earlier this week.
