Latvian Health Ministry has made many organizational errors, says expert

The request for the resignation of Health Minister Daniels Pavļuts had been growing for some time, due to recent errors as well as the Ministry's one-way communication with the industry, Daiga Behmane, head of the Latvian Health Economy Association, told Latvian Radio October 28.

She pointed out that there had been a lot of errors recently, from organizing the vaccination process to opening large vaccination centers against Covid-19, rather than from the outset involving family doctors who know their patients. Behmane also said that the discontinuation of non-urgent health services was a mistake in the first wave of the pandemic, due to increased mortality from non-infectious diseases.

“The industry has no answer what lies behind the decision. As if we understand it is a lack of resources for hospitals, but we need to look more broadly that health care is needed for all residents, not just for Covid-19 sufferers,” she said.

The head of the association also mentioned that the Ministry of Health's communication with both the industry and the patient who should be in focus has been poor and one-way.
