Latvian hospitals feel impact of Omicron wave on staff

Take note – story published 2 years ago

The wave of Covid-19 Omicron has affected medical staff far more strongly than the previous types of the virus, head of Latvian Hospital Association Jevgēņijs Kalējs in an interview with Latvian Television January 27.

“The wave now is far more terrible than it was before,” said Kalējs. Around 300 medical workers are out of work daily.

Kalējs said that it is currently considered to shorten the quarantine period for vaccinated medics who have no symptoms of the disease.

The current 10 or 14-day quarantine period is proposed by the Hospital Association to be reduced to five days. The issue has already been discussed with hospital leaders and the Ministry of Health, but the final decision has not yet been made.

“This is the only way we can return these medics more quickly to treat patients,” said Kalējs.
