Mixing vaccines against Covid-19 allowed in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

It will be allowed to complete vaccination against Covid-19 with a different manufacturer's vaccine than the first dose, government decided August 17.

The decision to complete vaccination with another manufacturer's vaccine will be taken by a doctor or an assistant doctor in cooperation with the patient. The State Council for Immunization said that mixing Covid-19 vaccines do not bear any more risks than a full course of one vaccine.

The interval recommended by the State Council of Immunization between doses of different vaccines:

  • in cases where the first dose of the “Vaxzevria” virus vector vaccine produced by AstraZeneca is received, the second dose with the mRNS (“Pfizer/BioNTech”, “Moderna”) type vaccine should be received 4 to 12 weeks after the first dose;
  • in cases where the first dose of mRNS technology vaccine is received, the second dose with virus vector vaccine should be received 28 days after the first dose of the vaccine.

Digital certificates in case of mixing of vaccines will be generated on the same terms as in other cases. If the vaccination course is completed with AstraZeneca's vaccine, the certificate will be available immediately; if Pfizer or Moderna vaccine is administered as the second, the certificate will be available 15 days later.
