Friday brought 8,682 new confirmed cases according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of 25,514 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, over a third (34%) were positive, a figure consistent with the high totals of recent days. The 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population surged to a new record level, climbing from 3,584 Thursday to 3,904 Friday.
Since the beginning of the pandemic 372,503 Covid-19 cases have been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.
Nine more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed, all of persons aged 60 years or over. Two of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 4,855.
Friday's data from the National Health Service is yet to be published, but Thursday's data show 760 patients being treated in hospital (down on 761 the previous day) with 98 patients admitted and 75 discharged during the last 24 hours. 67 patients are displaying serious symptoms.
In the other Baltic states, Estonia recorded nearly 6,000 new cases during the last 24 hours while Lithuania hit a record high for a third day in a row with over 11,000 cases.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv.
Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme. All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
