Number of Covid patients in hospitals rose by 36% last week in Latvia

Last week, the number of Covid-19 cases detected increased by 40.5%, and there was a continued increase in hospitalized patients - by 36.1%, according to the data published October 11 by the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of all tests performed, 42% (47,337 tests) involved screening of educational establishments, while 58% (65,892 tests) were conducted in the rest of the population. Of the positive cases of Covid-19, 13% (1,297 infected) were associated with screening of educational establishments, while 87% (8,336 infected) in the rest of the population.

Last week, on average, 16,176 tests were conducted per day (20,378 the week before) and an average of 1,376 new cases were detected (979 the week before).

Among Covid-19 cases detected last week, 7,518 people had not been vaccinated against Covid-19 or had not yet completed the vaccination course, which amounted to 78% of the total infected population in the last week, while 2,115 people were vaccinated, which is 22% of the total last week

The number of imported Covid-19 cases (53) decreased slightly in the previous week, accounting for 0.6% of all cases in Latvia.
