One more case of coronavirus confirmed in Latvia

During the 24-hour period from March 12 to 13, one new case of COVID-19 coronavirus has been confirmed in Latvia, said Jurijs Perevoščikovs, director of the Department of Risk Analysis and Prevention of Infectious Diseases, at the Disease Prevention and Control Center in an interview with Latvian Radio March 13.

As a result, 17 cases have been confirmed in Latvia. Perevoščikovs said 76 people were tested during that period, twice as many as the previous day.

Shortly afterwards, the SPKC confirmed the single new case in its daily update on social media adding that the new patient had been infected at home by a family member who had returned home from an infected area of Italy.

In total 408 tests have been conducted with 17 positive results, the SPKC added in a subsequent tweet.

As previously reported by LSM, Friday March 13 sees a range of precautionary measures taking effect in Latvia in an attempt to control the spread of the virus.

Meanwhile Estonia saw a leap in the number of cases to 41, reported ERR News. So far, Lithuania has three confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease, reported LRT News.
