In seven suspected cases, patients tested negative for the measles infection and one case is still under examination.
According to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control’s estimates, around 95 percent of Latvia’s population might be immune to measles - those born in the 1960s have probably had the infection as children and younger people have received one or two jabs against measles.
Although most Latvians are thought to be immune to measles, Perevoscikovs said that small outbreaks are still possible, in kindergartens or schools, for instance.
On January 3, Latvian Television reported that four cases of measles have been discovered in Latvia, the first in two and a half years.
