Over half of Latvian population has had at least one Covid jab

More than half of the population over 12 years of age has now received at least one shot against Covid-19, according to information compiled by the National Health Service (NVD), LETA reported August 31.

A total of 1,502,201 injections have been carried out in Latvia so far, including 743,033 people receiving the first dose of the vaccine, while 759,168 people have completed the vaccination process. 

According to data from the Central Statistical Bureau, at the beginning of April 2021, there were provisionally 1,653,049 inhabitants over 12 years of age. Therefore, at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine has been received by 51.78% of the population for whom vaccination is available and 44.95% have completed the vaccination process.

On Monday, a total of 4,568 people were vaccinated against Covid-19, of which 2,139 received the first dose of the vaccine, 2,143 the second but 286 were vaccinated with the single-dose shot produced by Johnson & Johnson (J & J).
