“Our overall strategy is moving away from the fact that the government will try to stop the disease as such. (..) We have a different approach, namely, not to limit the economies and people's opportunities to move, but to protect the person,” said Kariņš.
He pointed to three things that people in the pandemic can do: vaccinate against Covid-19, use FFP2 respirators, and often perform Covid-19 tests.
Kariņš said that the testing worked successfully in the school system so he urged it to be practiced when going to visit other people.
“Before going to visit our parents, let us perform a test,” the Prime Minister said. “Why should Mum or Grandmother get an undesirable gift?”
The Prime Minister also suggested that Latvia should start thinking about providing booster vaccines to 12 to 17-year-olds.
