Record-high numbers of second-dose jabs for two days in a row in Latvia

Over 10,000 people got the second dose of their Covid-19 vaccine for the second day in a row, according to the National Health Service data, LETA reported May 21.

On Thursday, a total of 15,459 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 in Latvia. 4,120 of them received the first dose of the vaccine and 10,249 received the second. 1,090 people were also vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which requires only one dose. 

On Wednesday the numbers were similar: a total of 16,715 people were vaccinated against Covid-19, of whom 5,703 received the first dose of the vaccine, and 10,483 - the second dose, but 1081 people were vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

By Thursday, at least 417,303 people in Latvia had received the first vaccine dose, but 156,826 people had completed the vaccination process.

According to the Central Statistical Bureau, Latvia had a provisional population of 1.889 million at the beginning of March 2021, so 22.09% of the population have received the first vaccine dose against Covid-19, but 8.3% have completed the vaccination process.

In total, at least 574,129 vaccines against Covid-19 have been injected in Latvia up to and including Thursday.
