Chronic illness patient vaccination is scheduled to begin next week. Overall, there are about 166,000 residents in this group. More information on the vaccination of these people is promised to be provided early next week.
Some chronic illness disease patients will need a family doctor's referral to receive a vaccine against Covid-19.
“We have done a great deal of work to minimize the need to require these referrals. There will be a fairly large check of the registers of chronic diseases in Latvia, [before vaccination starts],” Strazda said.
The vaccines of this priority group will also assess what medicines a person uses during the last year.
Chronic illness patients will find out about the need for a family doctor referral when they receive informative text messages and e-mails about the possibility of getting a vaccine against Covid-19. If there is no such indication, no referrals will be required.
However, there is still no clarity what to do with, for example, foreigners residing in Latvia who have a chronic illness but don't have a family doctor in Latvia.
