Health Minister Ilze Viņķele said in a press conference November 24 that the state of emergency in the country will almost certainly be extended.

The Minister said that the situation is stabilizing but there is as yet no decrease in infection numbers. It is forecast that over the next month the number of people in hospitals will grow further.

"Unfortunately people are tired [of restrictions] and possibly there are financial reasons why people do not observe rules," said Viņķele.

She said that the state of emergency will not end on December 6 as initially planned. The Ministry will continue to review suggestions for the rules on epidemiological safety on Tuesday.

The government will also decide on additional rules in six regions with a high COVID-19 prevalence.
