He said that the number of app users increased significantly over the past two weeks, it had previously been downloaded by 100,000 people, but by Thursday, September 3, by 133 000.
The interest in the app is influenced by both the increase in COVID-19 incidence rates and the news of the deteriorating situation in Europe, Perevoščikovs said.
He stressed that the app is a good means of limiting the spread of infection and that pupils should consider using it. It is relatively easy to track school contacts yet nobody knows who the pupil is sitting next to on the bus and otherwise outside the school.
As of May 29, the voluntary contact detection application “Stop COVID” developed in Latvia is available. In the first month, it already had more than 80,000 users.
