Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) has received information on three more cases of Covid-19 which are likely to be caused by the variant Omicron, SPKC said December 8.

On Wednesday, the SPKC received information from the laboratory on five samples detecting a number of mutations corresponding to the type of Omicron of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but the final approval would be given by the Eastern Hospital National microbiology reference laboratory when the samples are subjected to sequencing.

In all the cases, the SPKC has already organized the necessary safety measures, including identifying contacts and issuing recommendations to strictly observe home quarantine.

All five people returned from abroad (two from Sweden, two from Norway, one from the UK) and conducted tests at the airport. One is in the age group 20-29 years, three in the age group 30-39, one in the age group 40-49 years. All were fully vaccinated.

The SPKC calls on residents returning from abroad to Latvia to carry out a state-paid test at the airport, thereby protecting themselves and other people.
