Vaccination pace expected to slow down this week in Latvia

Today is the day for 594 medics to receive the second jab of Covid-19 vaccine, as 21 days have passed since the first day of vaccinations, Health Ministry's spokesman Oskars Šneiders told Latvian Radio January 18.

Šneiders said that the number of vaccines is currently limited and the remaining Pfizer vaccines are now dedicated to providing the second dose to those already vaccinated, so there will be fewer newly vaccinated people this week.

“Dose 2 vaccination is initiated for those who first received the vaccine against Covid-19 at the end of December last year. This reflect the situation of vaccination numbers then.

“The available amount of vaccines is currently that additional Pfizer vaccines cannot be administered [for those who haven't been vaccinated], but it is ensured that this second dose is given to people who are due to receive it. Accordingly, the number of vaccinations administered this week will certainly be lower than it was observed last week when all medics were vaccinated,” said Šneiders.
