On Wednesday February 24, the number of people vaccinated against Covid-19 reached almost 4,000 in a single day, the Vaccination Project Bureau told LETA February 25.

Wednesday saw 3,993 persons vaccinated against Covid-19. This is the largest number of people vaccinated in one day so far and represents a major acceleration in the pace of vaccination which has so far been sluggish as a result of difficulties securing large numbers of doses.

On February 24, a first dose was received by 3,962 persons and the second by 31.

In all, 37,100 people have received the first dose in Latvia and 16,875 have received both doses.

The National Health Service said that the number of persons vaccinated may still increase because the data in the e-health system can be updated for up to five days. For example, in the statistics updated on Wednesday, the number of persons vaccinated on Tuesday increased by 130 people, from 2116 to 2246.

At the beginning of the week, Health Minister Daniels Pavļuts said that this week the target was to vaccinate an average of 2,000 people a day. The pace of vaccination is expected to increase in the coming weeks as more doses are delivered by manufacturers.
